Running for Gold
At the UNK Cross Country meet on September 30th, Kiya Passero placed 3rd out of 130 runners, Phil Duncan placed 18th and Alec Burke placed 15th out of 235 runners. The girls’ team placed third being only 6 points from runner up. Coach Mr. Uhing said, “The ponies have broken free from the stable.”
The cross country runners understand that injuries come with the sport, but they fight through the inconveniences and push themselves as hard as they can.
At the Western Conference Cross Country meet on October 5th, in Gering, Greta Welch placed 6th, Lesley Zepeda paced 8th and Phil Duncan placed 8th. The varsity girls placed 3 third as a team and the Jv girls won the race with Kiya Passero taking first and Veronica Parish and Tatum Westemeier finishing in the top ten. At the Sydney Cross Country meet on October 10th, the girls’ varsity team placed 1st and the boys varsity team placed 2nd with many runners placing.
At the district Cross Country in Ogallala, the varsity girls team placed second being only 5 points from first. The boys varsity team placed fourth being only 1 point from third. For the varsity boys that qualified for state Phil Duncan placed second and Alec Burk placed 7th. For the varsity girls that qualified for state Kiya Passero placed third and Greta Welch placed 7th. The state championship will be on October 25th at Kearney.
