Bungee Jumping Eggs!

The results of the final project in Algebra II are attached.  Students gathered data on the elasticity of rubber bands using an egg in a cheese cloth harness for weight.  After 7 test jumps the calculator was used to create an equation that can be used to predict the number of bands needed to safely bungee jump the egg from a significantly higher height.

CHS Hosts Student-Led Technology Conference

On Friday December 19th, Chadron High School students will be taking part in a fun and innovative end of their semester.  They will be hosting and running their very own student-led technology conference.  

The idea came about when a student tech day was being highlighted on Twitter and teachers took note of it.  CHS successfully implemented a 1:1 iPad initiative for students in grades 9-12 in December of 2012.  Teachers have been attending technology conferences for several years and felt that students would benefit from their own conference by learning new ways to utilize technology as an educational tool.

The day will begin in the auditorium with a keynote speaker followed by four sessions throughout the morning.  Each of the four sessions will have seven choices of presentations for students to attend.  There are 20 CHS students who will be presenting to their peers concerning apps and websites that are used in the classroom such as organizing Google Drive, Prezi, Haiku Deck, Nearpod, Animoto, In Class, My Fitness Pal, Home Design, ACT prep apps, and even a graduate panel.

Instrumental & Vocal Winter Concert is Dec. 18th

The 6th-12th grade instrumental and vocal winter music concert will be held on Thursday, December 18th in the high school Auditorium. The instrumental concert will begin at 6:00p.m. followed by the vocal music concert at about 7:30p.m. We expect another packed house, so come early to get good seats!

Upward Bound Celebrates End of Successful Semester

The Upward Bound Christmas Quarterly Meeting took place December 6th at the beautiful CSC
Sandoz Center. Approximately twenty six students from Chadron, Alliance and Crawford high schools attended along with office assistant Stephanie Stroup, Academic Advisors Heather Moore Sager, Lauren Stephens, and Tearza Mashburn. Director Maggie Smith-Bruehlman, the goddess of ceremonies, introduced the activities of the day starting with the “draw a Christmas scene on a paper plate while on your head” icebreaker organized by Heather Moore Sager. The winning artist was Audreanna Smith from Crawford HS.

The students who won the Yellowstone essay contest- Terra, Tia, Brittnay, Sara, Sierra and Serie provided a power point presentation that reflected their experience of Yellowstone. Each student commented on what impacted them the most during the trip, and expressed appreciation for the wonderment of Yellowstone. Several of the students who attended the UNL, Creighton, and Wesleyan college campus tour (Serie, Brittnay, and Sara) conveyed their ideas and thoughts on the trip, and which college they preferred.

Sara Polak, the director of the Sandoz Center gave a presentation on Mari Sandoz illustrating the hardships she endured growing up in the early twentieth century. Ms. Sandoz struggled to receive an education and didn’t obtain recognition for her writing until she was in her thirties.

During the appetizer lunch catered by CSC Dining Services, Christmas gift bags were distributed to each student. The gift bag contained UB water bottles, fun toys, candy and popcorn balls. Following lunch, Lauren Stephens conducted a Christmas carol practice session in preparation for Prairie Pines Retirement Community performance.

After a jolly ride in the People Mover over to Prairie Pines, the students set up in the Dining Hall. Lauren Stephens started the show off with “Name that Tune” by playing the first few notes of notable Christmas songs on her flute. The residents did well on the game and scored lots a chocolate can-
dy. Ms. Stephens entertained with a solo flute composition that was quite remarkable and impressive. The UB students did a great job singing the various Christmas songs followed by the Marshallese students singing a beautiful song sung in their native language. The Prairie Pines residents truly appreciated the Upward Bound students  along with the Christmas gift bags

ACT Prep Offered During Lunch

Great Day in ACT Prep!   12/3/2014 0 Comments Today was not only a fantastic day for ACT prep numbers, but a lunch full of incredible learning and preparation!  Students joined Mrs. Drinkwalter and Mrs. Watson to prep for the ACT math section, primarily intermediate algebra and geometry. We are proud of our kids taking advantage of this first year pilot program and hope they enjoyed their free lunch!  Our next session will be held next Tuesday, December 9th during lunch. Another HUGE thank you to Mrs. Drinkwalter for all the ACT knowledge shared today! Good luck to all students taking the Dec. 13th ACT!

Financial Aid Night: January 13th

ALL SENIORS and SENIOR PARENTS are invited and encouraged to attend our financial aid night in the high school commons on January 13th at 6:30 p.m. 

Dinner will be provided and financial aid professionals from across the state will join us to discuss how to pay for college and set up personal sessions for filling out the FAFSA (Free-Application for Federal Student Aid). 

This meeting is incredibly important. If you’re a college bound senior, you will soon submit the FAFSA. Colleges will use your FAFSA results to determine how much they will award you in financial aid. To meet your college’s financial aid priority date, complete your taxes early. If you’d like to estimate your FAFSA results now, use the “college funding estimator” at EducationQuest.org.

Varsity Basketball Tonight! (No Passes Accepted)

Tonight (December 1st) Chadron will host Bridgeport in exhibition basketball games with all proceeds going to the Nebraska High Schools Sports Hall of Fame Foundation (Hall of Fame). Varsity girl's game begins at 5:30 with the varsity boy's following at 7:00 in the Middle School Gym.

The Nebraska High School Activities Association sponsors annual Jamboree Basketball Games each year. Results of Jamboree games are not counted into the school's regular season record, nor are they counted toward a school's wild-card point averages.

Come watch Chadron versus Bridgeport and support the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.
