Chadron Math Club competed at the West River Math contest in Rapid City this week.
Professors from the School of Mines and Technology write the tests and students come from South Dakota and Nebraska to compete. The club prepares for the competition after school from the first week of February to the last week of April. Although the high school curriculum has the graphing calculator integrated, for this competition no calculator is allowed. This setting allows students with strong ability in mathematics to work challenging problems from a different perspective. The students competed well with the following results.
Algebra I: Maddie Stein was 5th and Lauren Collins was 1st.
Algebra II: Cody Madsen was 3rd and Hunter Hawk was 2nd.
Advanced Math: Coy Bila was 3rd and Chace Franey was 2nd.
Masters Exam: Walt Mays was 3rd.
