Chadron HS Recieves NFS Grant for Sawmill

Woodmizer LT15GO Sawmill
Chadron High School is one of two Nebraska schools to receive a grant of approximately $11,500 of sawmill equipment sponsored by the Nebraska Forest Service - An Affiliate of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Ainsworth High School is the other Nebraska school selected as a recipient.

Project Purpose: North-Central and Northwest Nebraska are some of the state's most heavily-forested regions. However, there is such a shortage of forest industry and forest product manufacturing in the areas that severe wildfires have occurred as a result of lack of management and timber harvest. NFS is working with the local schools to get students involved in forestry education and wood products manufacturing through FFA, the industrial technology and agricultural programs in an effort to increase student interest in the resources available in their own backyard and jumpstart the development of forest-based small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Nyle L53 Kiln

Chadron and Ainsworth high schools will each receive a Woodmizer LT15GO sawmill with the optional log loader kit and a Nyle L53 wood kiln. Included in the grant is training provided by NFS.
