We'll host our parent/teacher conferences Tuesday, Feb 7th from 5:00-8:30pm. Tours of the high school will be available at that time as well.
Also, I want to take this time to remind all high school students and parents that we have a full day of classes this Friday (Feb 10th). There will be no classes for any K-8 grades on that day.
Why does the high school have a day of classes but the other buildings do not? For students and parents new to our system, this is often a confusing question. Since our high school uses block scheduling, we don't have many quarter classes so our turn-out for conferences four times a year was quite minimal. Our staff determined that having one set of parent/teacher conferences each semester lead to a much higher turn-out rate for parents of our students. Thus, our high school staff does not need this extra compensation day for time spent in conferences. In addition, in this era of school accountability, we lose class time spent with our students due to the multiple days of state testing in the spring. So having the opportunity to have one extra instruction day with our students is important.
I hope to see all of our parents for conferences! Please feel free to contact the high school (432-0707) if you'd like to arrange a quick tour of our building before the upcoming bond election.
