Lauren Collins |
Congratulations to CHS Senior, Lauren Collins!
Lauren was selected as the Nebraska alternate for the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP)! The scholarship program is highly competitive. In addition to outstanding leadership abilities and a strong commitment to public service, students rank academically in the top one percent of their state. They continue to excel and develop qualities that are often directed toward public service. As an alternate, should one of the two Nebraska delegates be unable to attend Washington Week, Lauren would become a delegate. Student delegates will visit Capitol Hill, the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department, the Supreme Court and other historic sites in Washington. They will meet with the highest-level officials in the three branches of government. In addition, a $10,000 scholarship is awarded to each delegate.
The United States Senate Youth Program was created “to increase young Americans’ understanding of the interrelationship of the three branches of government, the caliber and responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials, and the vital importance of democratic decision making not only for America but for people around the world.” USSYP is sponsored by the Senate and fully funded by The Hearst Foundations.
