HS Health Screenings for Grades 10 & 11th Nov. 12th

              2019 Health Screenings

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Hope this letter finds each of you and your families off to a great school year!

We are writing to let you know that the required school health screenings will be held on November 12th
and 13th.  The schedule will be as follows:

November 12th morning- High School (10th - 11th grades) 

November 12th afternoon - Intermediate School (3rd - 4th)

November 13th morning - Primary School (K - 2nd)

November 13th afternoon - Middle School (6th - 7th)

 These are routine school days so we will be pulling your child’s class for a short time to complete a
hearing, dental, vision and height, weight screening.  A current physical is required for incoming
Kindergarten and 7th grade students so they will not be participating in the height/weight portion. 
Incoming Kindergarten students are required to have a current vision exam, they will not be completing
that portion at this time. Kindergarten hearing screenings were already completed.  These screenings
are not only a requirement by the State of Nebraska but also very important in early diagnosis of
potential barriers in a student’s ability to learn and grow! vc                 

CAPWN Dental will also be completing dental screenings and/or treatments for ALL grades who’s
permission slips (sent home the beginning of the year) were filled out and returned.

If you do not want your child/ren to participate in the free screenings, you will need to come to the
school and sign a waiver.  Due to the screenings being a state requirement, we will need you to provide
the school with documented results from your private providers for each area of screening by  
December 1, 2019.

Cardinal Counseling - Nov. 1st 5 Bullet Friday

December ACT Registration Date Approaching! I HIGHLY suggest all junior consider taking the December ACT to help better prepare for the free state ACT test in April.  How many times should you take the ACT?  Watch this video, three to four times seems to be the consensus by some of the most knowledgeable experts in the arena!  2. Cardinal Cast: Apply to College Week With Special Student Guest Savanna Sayaloune! Watch Savanna steal the show and DOMINATE the college cost game! Junior and Senior Checklist There are an abundance of things to do to stay on track, but don’t get overwhelmed!  Download the EducationQuest app for easy access to tools like Activities Resume, College Profiles, College Timeline, Reality Check, and ScholarshipQuest. There's also a calendar that will guide you through college-planning steps - and you can personalize it with your own tasks. Keep up to date with happenings in the counseling office by subscribing to the google calendar HERE! This week the CHS Counseling Office hosted a fun event called Apply to College Week!  During the entire week we hosted college reps, completed fun college trivia, gave away a massive amount of college prizes, wear cool college gear, and played college themed games.  We will had two capstone events on October 30th for juniors and seniors where we visited Chadron State College!  Completing a college application can be daunting – especially if a student doesn’t have help with the forms. That’s why EducationQuest sponsors Apply2College, an annual statewide campaign in which high schools conduct events during the school day to help seniors apply to college. This is part of a national campaign to change the lives of students. Thanks to all students and staff who participated this week! Schedule of Events!   Monday Oct 28th  Cardinal college scavenger hunt  Photoshop cardinal into photo of different campuses picture and have students search and post to CSC counseling when they find it and what NE campus it is - to social media for prize  Hand Out Bingo and Punch Cards and Get the school pumped about Apply to College Week! Tues Oct 29th  Pin the Mascot  # off mascots with magnet to place on a map of NE on the white board in counseling office and each mascot # will correlate with a specific prize Wed Oct 30th  CSC Tour for Seniors in the morning After tour ask students to fill out questionnaires about the slideshow College Bingo due for other students Have students ask teachers about their colleges and degrees and have teachers sign off on paper. Juniors going over to CSC at 1:30 to go over ASVAB scores. Thurs Oct 31th Dress as your career (Halloween)  Students come into the office to show their costumes and are entered into a drawing for a prize  Friday Nov 1st  Punch cards-prizes given out for completed cards  Scavenger hunt  Pin the Mascot  Career Dress Up College Bingo  Club Involvement College Reps all week 5. Attend Our FREE QPR Training to Help Save Lives, Reduce, and Recognize Suicidal Behavior. The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. The signs of crisis are all around us. $15 Fan Bus this Saturday (44 Passenger Limit)

Thank you Boosters!!!

The Chadron Booster Club is providing a Fan Bus for this Saturday’s District Volleyball game in North
Platte where the Lady Cardinals will compete against Malcolm with the winner advancing to the State
Tournament the following week.

We will have a 44 passenger bus that will leave the Chadron Middle School parking lot on Saturday,
Nov. 2nd at 9:00am. This will be a direct trip to North Platte High School and back. Estimated return time
is around 8:30pm. 

The cost for the Fan Bus is $15. Riders are asked to pay in advance at the Chadron High School
Office or prior to departing at the bus Saturday morning (exact amount please).  Checks need to be made
payable to the ‘Chadron Booster Club’. Riders are responsible for the $5 entrance fee to the game and
for their meals (quick stops will be provided in Ogallala).

If you are interested in registering for the Fan Bus, be one of the first 44 riders to stop by or call the Chadron High School Office at 432-0707.  

Dr. Winchester Awarded Excellence in Education Award in Chicago

“We are celebrating Dr. Caroline Winchester who has 

served as the Superintendent of Chadron Public Schools 

for the past nine years and students for 36 years as an 

educator and leader. During this time, she has provided the 

district with strong, servant leadership that is vision 

centered, mission driven and goal-focused.  She has led 

the district through difficult financial times, the 

implementation of a district wide MTSS model, the adoption 

and implementation of the Danielson Framework for 

Teaching, and nearly two cycles of Systems Accreditation 

through AdvancEd, now Cognia. Her reflective, inclusive, 

collaborative and transparent leadership has served as an 

example of exceptional leadership to the administrative team 

(The A-Team) and to the entire Chadron Public Schools staff. 

As administrators, we recognize the importance of the vision of Chadron Public Schools - Infinite 

Education, Infinite Possibilities, and Opportunities for All - because it reminds us of the important 

work that we do every day. We appreciate her experienced guidance as we strive to meet this 

ideal by serving our students with passion, compassion and equity. We also appreciate her trust in 

us as professionals, which she demonstrates through a collaborative decision making process 

and by allowing us the autonomy to run the day-to-day operations of our schools. As Dr. 

Winchester prepares to retire from public education, we are excited to celebrate this special 

recognition from Cognia with her. On behalf of the teachers, support staff and students of 

ChadronPublic Schools, the A-Team would like to congratulate and thank Dr. Caroline 

Winchester for her record of outstanding service and exemplary leadership.”

Invite to Supt. Input Session - Oct. 28th @ 6p

The Chadron School Board recently accepted the resignation, due to retirement,
of Dr. Caroline Winchester, Superintendent of Schools. We are grateful for
Dr. Winchester's service to Chadron Public Schools and wish her well in her future
endeavors. 

As the Board of Education prepares for the charge of hiring a superintendent,
we would value the input of parents and community members. You will have
the opportunity to offer suggestions pertaining to skills, qualities, or characteristics the
candidate might possess in order to be successful in his or her role as superintendent
and your views about the strengths of the school district and community. 

The Nebraska Association of School Boards is assisting the board in the
superintendent search and has scheduled a visit to the district to engage
stakeholders. The board would like to invite you to attend an
information and input session with NASB Monday, October 28th
at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Library, to hear about the

process and ask questions.
